beorg 3.36.0

beorg 3.36.0 is now available as an update on the App Store.

The headline changes in this release are:

• The item editor can be swiped down to dismiss if no changes. This behaviour does mean that the item editor is no longer full screen on phones, however this behavior can be changed by setting ui-item-editor-phone-fullscreen to #t.
• If a search starts with a ‘(’, which indicates a Scheme search, then no search will take place until the search ends with a ‘)’.
• The agenda day quick capture + buttons can now use a default template, if you have one set, when populating the item editor. There are two new Scheme variables associated with this agenda-day-quick-capture-use-default-template and agenda-day-quick-capture-date-type. You can set these in your init.org or using the Customize UI.

Many of the changes in beorg come from user suggestions. Everyone uses beorg differently, and it is always fascinating to hear which features are important to you. When evaluating your suggestions, I look at a number of factors, including:

1. How many users are likely to want this?
2. How easy will this be to implement?
3. Will this impact on how people currently use beorg in a negative way?

As with many indie developers, the majority of my income comes from freelancing. While I would much rather spend time developing beorg, the reality is that it still doesn’t quite pay for my family’s monthly grocery bill, let alone all of the other items in each month’s budget. I’m much more likely, therefore, to take on board suggestions that are relatively easy to implement.

There are a number of hard problems in the backlog, such as improving sync or rewriting the outliner, and I am slowly working on some of these. However, I love it when someone suggests something that is easy to do and can still make a big impact. Hopefully, you’ll find at least one of the three changes in this release improves beorg for you. All of these changes can be used by someone who has downloaded beorg and never purchased any extensions or subscribed to beorg premium.
